DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER, WE THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO COME TOGETHER TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY, TO MAKE THOUGHTFUL DECISIONS THAT WILL ENHANCE THE WELLBEING OF OUR CONSTITUENTS AND THE PROSPERITY OF OUR REGION THROUGH YOU.

WE ASK THAT YOU HELP US APPROACH OUR DELIBERATIONS WITH OPEN HEARTS AND OPEN MINDS READY TO LISTEN TO DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES AND ENGAGE IN CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE.

GOOD EVENING, YOUR COUNTY CITIZENS, AND THANK YOU TO THE, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FOR ALLOWING ME TO SPEAK TONIGHT.

MY NAME IS SCOTT HENDRICKS, AND I WORK IN THE YORK COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION.

I AM ALSO THE COUNTY APPOINTED STAFF LIAISON FOR THE YORK COUNTY YOUTH COMMISSION.

THE YORK COUNTY YOUTH COMMISSION, OR THE Y C Y C IS A GROUP OF 15 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH THREE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FROM EACH OF THE COUNTY'S FIVE DISTRICTS.

ALL MEMBERS OF THE YOUTH COMMISSION SUBMIT APPLICATIONS AND ARE SELECTED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, REPRESENTATIVE FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE DISTRICTS.

THE YOUTH COMMISSION YOUTH COMMISSION SERVES AS A COMMUNICATIONS LINK BETWEEN THE YOUTH OF YOUR COUNTY AND THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS BY RESEARCHING AND PRESENTING STUDENT ISSUES, PROBLEMS, NEEDS, IDEAS, AND SUGGESTIONS.

THE YOUTH COMMISSION ALSO MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING PROGRAMS PROVIDED TO YOUTH AND PARTICIPATES IN THEIR ESTABLISHMENT WHEN APPROPRIATE SERVICE ON THE YORK COUNTY YOUTH COMMISSION INCREASES MEMBERS' KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP SKILLS DEVELOPMENT, AND CLOSE TEAMWORK WITH OTHER STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTY.

OKAY? AND YOU'LL BE REPRESENTING THE 15, OR, UH, NO, 12,000, EXCUSE ME, UH, OR 13,000 STUDENTS IN YOUR COUNTY, IN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM.

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.

AND, UH, YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS TO US ARE REALLY TAKEN TO HEART AS THEY'VE CHANGED SOME OF THE WAYS WE'VE DONE BUSINESS IN THE COUNTY.

I HAVE LIVED IN YORK COUNTY FOR 65 YEARS.

I HAVE BEEN A USER OF THE SENIOR CENTER FOR 20 PLUS YEARS.

I HAVE MADE NUMEROUS FRIENDS AND MET MY NEIGHBORS BY ATTENDING PROGRAMS OFFERED BY THE CENTER AS WE AGE.

I NOW 88.

WE NEED TO BE ACTIVE AND KEEP COMMUNICATIONS OPEN AND LEARN NEW THINGS AND KEEP MOVING.

I CAN DRIVE MYSELF TO THE STORE FOR GROCERIES, THE DOCTOR, THE DENTIST, AND THE SENIOR CENTER, BUT I CAN SEE THAT THE FUTURE WILL DICTATE WHAT I AM CAPABLE OF AND DRIVING WILL NOT BE SOMETHING I WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DO.

IN THE 20 PLUS YEARS THAT I'VE ATTENDED THE PROGRAMS AT THE CENTER, I MYSELF HAVE PROVIDED RIDES TO OTHERS WHO ARE UNABLE TO DRIVE AND HAVE NO ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION.

I DO NOT SEE MY BEING SO FORTUNATE.

THERE ARE FOUR MEMBERS TODAY THAT NEED HELP OR GIVE HELP TO SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A WAY TO GET TO THE CENTER.

I HOPE THAT YOU ALL WILL SEE THAT THERE WILL BE OTHERS WHO NEED A RIDE, MAYBE EVEN YOU IN THE FUTURE.

YOUR COUNTY NEEDS TO TAKE A LOOK AT HOW WE CAN BE HELPED AND MAKE IT HAPPEN.

LIKE MEALS ON WHEELS, IT CAN BE DONE.

I'M HERE THIS EVENING TO LOBBY FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THE YORK COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE.

OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE DOOR-TO-DOOR TRANSPORTATION FOR THOSE LONG-TERM CITIZENS OF YORK COUNTY, WHO CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THEMSELVES TO THE SENIOR CENTER.

THE SENIOR CENTER HAS MANY ENRICHING PROGRAMS THAT OUR MEMBERS WANT TO CONTINUE TO AVAIL THEMSELVES OF.

WITHOUT THIS SERVICE, THEY WILL BE LEFT HOME ALONE WITHOUT SOCIAL STIMULATION AND OR DAILY INTERACTION.

TO THAT END, OUR COMMITTEE APPROACHED THE HAMPTON ROADS TRANSIT AUTHORITY OFFICE IN VIRGINIA BEACH, HOPING TO PARTICIPATE IN A RIDESHARE PILOT PROGRAM OUTLINED IN A DAILY PRESS ARTICLE, WE WERE ADVISED THAT ALTHOUGH NEWPORT NEWS AND HAMPTON COULD BE INCLUDED, YORK COUNTY BELONGS TO THE WILLIAMSBURG AREA TRANSIT AUTHORITY.

OKAY, , WELL, TALKING WITH BEN GOODALL, A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE WILLIAMSBURG AREA TRANSIT AUTHORITY, WE WERE ADVISED THAT OUR TIMING COULD NOT BE MORE ON POINT AS THE WATER WAS MEETING IN SEPTEMBER TO DISCUSS THE FIVE-YEAR TRANSPORTATION PLAN AND NEEDS FOR HAMPTON ROADS AREA, THE RIDESHARE PROGRAM THAT I WOULD LIKE YOUR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO CONSIDER IS TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE SENIOR CENTER.

FOR THOSE SENIOR CITIZENS WHO CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THEMSELVES, WE PROPOSE TWO TRANSPORTATION SHIFTS, ONE IN THE MORNING AND ONE IN THE AFTERNOON.

THE PATRONS WHO HAVE THIS ESTABLISHED AND APPROVED NEED WOULD COME TO THE CENTER FOR THE MORNING AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASSES OR JUST SIT AND CONVERSE WITH OTHER SENIOR PATRONS AT THEIR LEISURE AND THEN TRAVEL HOME.

AND THE AFTERNOON PATRONS WOULD COME FOR THE AFTERNOON ATTRACTIONS LIKE THE MOVIES, ART CLASSES, BOARD GAMES, WAR STORIES, JAMMING SESSIONS, ET CETERA AT THE CENTER AND THEN TRAVEL HOME TO THEIR RESIDENTS.

THE PROGRAMS THAT THE SENIOR CENTER PROVIDES ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE PATRON'S, COGNITIVE AND PHYSICAL ABILITY TO FUNCTION AS A CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF SOCIETY.

OUR VITAL SENIORS HAVE PAID YOUR COUNTY TAXES FOR MANY, MANY, MANY YEARS.

SOME PATRONS HAVE BEEN COUNTY RESIDENTS FOR ALL OF THEIR 80 AND 90 YEARS OF AGE.

ALL THEY ARE REQUESTING FROM THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS THE BOARD'S CONSIDERATION AND SUPPORT FOR A RIDESHARE PROGRAM SO THAT THESE RESIDENTS CAN CONTINUE THE COMRADERY ALREADY ESTABLISHED AND ENJOY TIME WITH THEIR NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS.

SHE'S GIVEN OUR PATRON PERSPECTIVE IN REGARDS TO TRANSPORTATION AND WHAT IT MEANS TO, TO HER.

UM, MANY MORE WOULD BE HERE TONIGHT, BUT THEY CAN'T DRIVE TO GET HERE AND MANY OF THEM DO NOT DRIVE AFTER DARK.

ERICA MITCHELL HAS SPOKEN, UH, ABOUT SOME OF WHAT THE COMMITTEE HAS DONE AND THE BENEFITS OF THE SENIOR CENTER AS PROGRAMMING.

AND ERICA HAS ALSO PROPOSED WHAT THE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM MIGHT LOOK LIKE AT THE SENIOR CENTER.

SO NOW I'D LIKE TO PRESENT JUST A FEW STATISTICS.

SOME OF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH WHEN THE SENIOR CENTER FIRST BEGAN IN 1991 AND YOU'VE WATCHED IT GROW IN ATTENDANCE AND EXPANDING PROGRAMS THROUGH THE YEARS, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HAS GIVEN US SUPPORT OVER THESE MANY YEARS.

IN AUGUST, 2023, THERE WERE 1,323 PATRON VISITS FOR PROGRAMS THAT WERE ENJOYED.

THIS IS A TYPICAL MONTHLY USAGE OF THE SENIOR CENTER FOR REGULAR PARTICIPATION OF PROGRAMS AND FOR NEW AND SPECIAL EVENTS.

THE PATRONS TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE IS A GRASSROOTS GROUP OF CONCERNED SENIORS WHO HAVE BEEN COMING TO THE SENIOR CENTER FOR MANY YEARS OR MORE RECENTLY, HAVE JOINED AND ARE EITHER NO LONGER ABLE TO DRIVE THEMSELVES OR WHO NOW ARE FACING THE DAYS WHEN THEIR DRIVING DAYS WILL END SOON.

LACK OF TRANSPORTATION IS NOT A NEW ISSUE, BUT IT HAS BECOME AN URGENT CONCERN FOR MANY WHO WANT TO CONTINUE COMING TO THE SENIOR CENTER.

OVER THIS PAST YEAR, THE COMMITTEE HAS WORKED, UH, WITH THE SENIOR CENTER BOARD, UH, LYNN MCMULLEN, AND MORE RECENTLY MARK BELLAMY AND BRIAN FULLER TO EXPLORE THE ISSUE AND SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE.

AT A RECENT MEETING WITH MARK BELLAMY AND BRIAN FULLER, WE WERE ASKED TO COME UP WITH A CRITERIA FOR PATRONS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO USE THE TRANSPORTATION SERVICE.

OUR COMMITTEE DID THAT AND IN ADDITION, DRAFTED AN APPLICATION FORM COMMITTEE MEMBERS ALSO SEARCHED INFORMATION FROM OTHER COMMUNITIES AND HOW THEY PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR SENIORS.

UM, I'M GONNA SHARE WITH YOU, UM, SAVANNAH GEORGIA'S STORY, A STORY OF DEMOCRACY IN ACTION.

WHAT FOLLOWS IS AN EDITED VERSION OF A LOCAL NEWSPAPER ARTICLE SUMMARIZING SAVANNAH'S CITY COUNCIL'S VOTE TO TURN DOWN CRUISE SHIP TERMINALS IN THEIR PORTS.

ON JUNE 27TH, CITY COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO DENY THE PHASE TWO STUDY OF A CRUISE SHIP TERMINAL ON THE SAVANNAH RIVER LANDING SITE.

THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING WAS FILLED TO THE BRIMM WITH CITIZENS, ALL OF WHOM SEEMED TO OPPOSE THE CRUISE TERMINAL.

SOME WERE ALLOWED TIME TO SPEAK AND SUBSEQUENTLY DENOUNCED THE IDEA.

DANIEL CAREY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE HISTORIC SAVANNAH FOUNDATION, SAID THERE WASN'T COMPELLING EVIDENCE TO MOVE FORWARD.

PAM MILLER OF B SMART SAVANNAH, A CRUISE TERMINAL OPPOSITION GROUP, POINTED OUT THAT TINY SAVANNAH WOULD HAVE LITTLE CLOUT AMONG HEAVYWEIGHT CRUISE COMPANIES IF THEY EVER WANTED TO PULL OUT OF AN AGREEMENT WITH THEM.

MOREOVER, SHE SAID THERE'D BE NO BOOST TO LOCAL BUSINESSES AND ANY JOBS CREATED WOULD BE LOW PAYING AND SEASONAL.

THAT WAS THE GIST OF THE 12 OR SO PEOPLE WHO SPOKE, INCLUDING DOWNTOWN RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS OWNERS.

NO ONE SPOKE IN FAVOR OF THE TERMINAL.

UM, BUT MOST PEOPLE ECHOED THE SENTIMENT THAT CRUISING FROM SAVANNAH WAS RIGHT TO BE EXPLORED, WAS LOOKED INTO THE PEOPLE SPOKE, AND NOW IT'S DONE.

THE COUNCIL PROFUSELY THANKED CITIZENS FOR THEIR INPUT AND ALL REVELED IN A MOMENT WHERE GOVERNMENT WAS ACTUALLY WORKING, UM, UH, WITHOUT RAM ROTTING AN ISSUE THROUGH.

MAYBE ON THE FACE OF IT, HAVING A FEW CRUISE SHIPS COME THROUGH.

SAVANNAH SOUNDED GOOD BOATLOADS OF PEOPLE WITH WADS OF CASH TURNED LOOSE ON THE CITY.

UM, SOME OF OUR LOCAL LEADERSHIP OBVIOUSLY REGARDED THIS KIND OF TOUR AS AN ECONOMIC BOOM, BUT MAYBE IT WOULD'VE BEEN IF NOT FOR ALL THE NEGATIVE EXTERNAL COSTS, INCLUDING THE PROJECTED 100 MILLION TERMINAL PRICE TAG, CRUISE SHIP POLLUTION, AND THE HEAVY PRESSURE ON AN AGING DOWNTOWN INFRASTRUCTURE.

UM, THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE EXACT SENTIMENTS WE HAVE BEEN EXPRESSING TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, UM, RIGHT HERE IN YORKTOWN.

THE RESIDENTS OF THIS TOWN DO NOT WANT A HUGE CRUISE SHIP CARRYING THOUSANDS OF PASSENGERS IN OUR QUAINT LITTLE TOWN.

YORKTOWN IS TOO SMALL TO HAVE THESE MONSTER SHIPS DWARFED THE BEAUTY AND AMBIANCE OF THIS HISTORIC VILLAGE.

IT IS AMUSING THAT PRINCESS CRUZ'S CLAIMS AND INTEREST IN US COLONIAL HISTORY, GIVEN THE FACT THAT IT IS INCORPORATED IN BERMUDA AND MOST OF ITS CRUISE SHIPS ARE REGISTERED IN THAT COUNTRY.

IN ORDER TO AVOID ALL US INCOME TAXES, US WAGE AND LABOR LAWS, AND US OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS PROTECT OUR ECOSYSTEM, GO TO ANOTHER PLACE THAT THE SHIPS HAVE ALREADY DESTROYED BEYOND REPAIR.

THIS MOVE WILL DESTROY THE SMALL PORT, THE SMALL BUSINESSES, THE FAMILY BEACH, THE GORGEOUS VIEWS FROM THE TOWN TO THE BEACH.

THERE WERE BETTER WAYS TO DO THAT.

THOSE 16 FAMILIES ON THAT ROAD COULD HAVE BEEN SPARED ALL THAT PROBLEM.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY HERE TO GO DRIVE DOWN SPRINGFIELD ROAD TODAY.

BRICKS HAVE MELLOWED, THE PLANTINGS HAVE MATURED, AND THERE'S A FILLING OF A VILLAGE AS ONE ROUNDS A CORNER OR WALKS BETWEEN THE BUILDINGS, THE LARGER BUILDINGS ARE POSITIONED TO THE WEST AT THE BASE OF THE BRIDGE WHERE THE AREA BETWEEN THE RIVER AND THE ROAD IS WIDER, BROADER, THE WEIGHT OF THE PROJECT, THAT'S THE I THE WIDEST THE SCALE THEN TAPERS IN HEIGHT AND WEIGHT TO THE EAST WHERE THE ROAD AND THE RIVER COME TOGETHER.

THERE'S A HARMONY IN THE SITE DESIGN AND THE PROPOSED BUILDING ABSOLUTELY OVERWHELMS THE SITE THAT IT IS THAT IS PLANNED FOR ITS ERECTION.

THERE ARE FOUR MAJOR PORTS OF ENTRY TO THE COMMERCIAL, UM, AREA, WATER STREET, EAST AND WEST BUCKNER STREET AND BALLARD STREET.

ARGUABLY BALLARD MAY BE THE MOST HEAVILY TRAVELED.

I'M HERE HUMBLY ASKING EVERYONE FOR THEIR VOTE AND TO REMIND THEM THAT EARLY VOTING STARTS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND TO NOVEMBER 7TH.

TODAY, WE ARE ALL VERY AWARE THAT PRINCESS CRUZ STOP WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE JUST THE PILOT PROGRAM.

THIS BOARD APPEARS TO ACT AS A RUBBER STAMP TO EVERY DEVELOPER BUILDER, AND NOW A CREW, C E O, WHO CAN MAKE A PROMISE WITHOUT DUE DILIGENCE OR SENSE OF OUR HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE, WHICH IS WHY WE MUST HAVE A CODE OF ETHICS.

BUT I REGRESS TONIGHT THIS BOARD WILL ROCHE AGAIN TO APPROVE A DOCK MASTER BUILDING FOR WHICH MANY BUILDING HOSTS EXCEPTIONS HAVE BEEN GIVEN WITHOUT ANY JUSTIFICATION OR CLARIFICATION.

AS MS. WILKINS DETAIL, AS MANY OF US UNDERSTAND, THIS DOCK MASTER WILL SERVE AS THE FINAL TOUCHES TO THE PRINCESS CRUISE BECAUSE ON THIS BUILDING, THIS BOARD WILL HAVE FULL JURISDICTION AS IT WILL PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE GEORGETOWN BEACH AND THE BUSES THAT WILL THEN TRANSPORT THEM TO THE WILLIAMSBURG.

WHERE IF THERE'S ANY FINANCIAL GAIN THAT WILL HAPPEN THERE, NOT IN THE YOURTOWN BEACH, WILL WILL IN A STEP, IN A SHORT TIME, WE'LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE ENVIRONMENTAL FALLOUT OF A CRUISE LINE.

THAT HAS NEVER BEEN A GOOD STEWARD OF OUR LIMITED RESOURCES.

THERE IS NO PLANET BE.

SO I'M ASKING THIS BOARD TO PAUSE THE APPROVAL OF THE DO DOCK MASTER BUILDING AND WAIT FOR UNTIL THE NEXT BOARD, WHETHER I'M THERE OR NOT, TO GET ELECTED AND SEATED.

AND BOTH MY SON AND I HAVE BEEN VERY GRATEFUL.

UM, I ALSO COME HERE TONIGHT, HONESTLY, TO SPEAK SPECIFICALLY, I'M NOT HERE FOR A MULTITUDE OF POLITICAL VENUES, BUT SPECIFICALLY IT SPEAKS TO THE DOCK MASTERS BUILDING.

THREE YEARS AGO, MY OLDER DAUGHTER IS GETTING MARRIED, UM, AT YORKTOWN, AT THE WATERFRONT.

AT THAT TIME, MY MOTHER COULD NOT COME VISIT US BECAUSE THERE REALLY WASN'T ANY FACILITIES THAT WE COULD HOST HAVING HER HERE THAT WOULD'VE HAD AN A D A ACCESSIBLE BATHROOM.

UM, AND UNFORTUNATELY, OR AS TIME HAS PASSED MY DAUGHTER'S WEDDING THAT'S COMING UP, HER FIANCE'S MOTHER HAS NOW PASSED TOO, WHO ALSO WOULD'VE NEEDED THAT ACCESS.

SO I HAVE LOOKED AT THE DESIGNS WHICH LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THE BUILDINGS, UM, THAT I HAVE SEEN IN THE AREA, BOTH YOUR CALL THAT WE'RE STANDING IN HERE TONIGHT, AS WELL AS THE FREIGHT SHED.

I DON'T HAVE OPINIONS TO COMMENT ON AS FAR AS THE PRINCESS CRUISE SHIPS, BUT I WILL ALSO SAY THAT AS A RESIDENT, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT EVERYTHING IS MONOCRATIC THAT IS BEING SPOKEN TONIGHT.

SO THE CHILDREN THAT RIDE ON THE BUSES FROM PUBLIC SCHOOL TO PRIVATE SCHOOL GET A CHANCE TO LIVE IN A LESS, UM, AN ANXIOUS AREA AND HAVE A VERY GOOD, THRIVING, PRODUCTIVE LIFE.

UM, UM, AND I DON'T THINK IT WOULD'VE COST THAT MUCH TO HAVE, HAVE AN ARCHITECT THERE FOR A COUPLE HOURS.

IT'S ALSO A SHAME THAT THE COUNTY DIDN'T DO THIS WITH H Y D C OR THE CONCERNED CITIZENS OF YORK COUNTY OVER THE LAST YEARS, OR EVEN OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS.

IT WOULD'VE SAVED A LOT OF TIME, FRUSTRATION, AND MONEY.

UM, WE ALL APPRECIATE THE NEED FOR A D A MORE A D A, UH, BATHROOMS. NO ONE IN THIS ROOM WOULD PROBABLY SAY, WE DON'T NEED A NEW DOCK MASTER BUILDING.

SO THAT'S, THAT, THAT'S LIKE KIND OF A MUTE POINT.

EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

WE'RE JUST SAYING THAT THIS ISN'T THE APPROPRIATE BUILDING.

UM, THEY, IT SEEMED LIKE THAT WE COULD HAVE ACHIEVED A STRUCTURE THAT FROM AN ARCHITECTURAL STANDPOINT WAS MUCH MORE AESTHETICALLY PLEASING.

LIKE YOU MENTIONED IN YOUR DISCUSSION, THE FREIGHT SHED IS THE SAME HEIGHT, BUT DOESN'T LOOK AS MASSIVE AND BLOCK LIKE, BECAUSE OF THE BREAK IN THE LARGE GLASS DOORS THAT ALLOW ONE TO SEE RIGHT THROUGH THE WATER.

ALSO, THE PROPOSED BUILDING FROM THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE TWO-THIRDS ROOF, ONE THIRD BRICK RATHER THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

UM, SEVERAL BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ALSO BELIEVE THIS PROPOSED BUILDING TO BE UGLY.

AND, AND, UH, BARN LIKE IN DESIGN, IT WASN'T JUST THE H Y D C OR CONSERVED CITIZENS LIKE MYSELF.

WE ALL UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO GET THIS BUILDING DONE DURING THE OFF SEASON, BUT THESE MODIFICATIONS, UM, ARE LIKE PUTTING LIPSTICK ON A PIG.

BUT I JUST WANNA REITERATE THAT THAT MUCH OF THIS HEARTACHE ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROJECT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE COUNTY WOULD'VE JUST LISTENED AND MADE SOME COMPROMISES WITH H Y D C AND THE MANY OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS CONCERNED ABOUT THE DESIGN AND SCALE OF THE DOCK MASTER BUILDING, JUST BY MAKING A FEW SIMPLE COMPROMISE EARLY ON, A LOT OF MONEY, TIME, AND ENERGY COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED.

UM, SO, UH, I MEANT TO SAY AT THE BEGINNING, THE, THE THEME OF MY TALK WAS GO BIG OR GO HOME.

IT SEEMS TO BE THE NEW THEME OF YORK COUNTY, BIG DOCK MASTER BUILDING, BIG CRUISE SHIPS.

AND I'M JUST SAYING NO TO CRUISE SHIPS.

AND SO WORKING WITH THE SCHOOLS IN VDOT WORRIES, UH, I AUTHORIZED, UM, NIGHT PAVING BEGINNING TOMORROW NIGHT.

IT'LL BE A LITTLE BIT DISRUPTIVE FOR THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE RIGHT ALONG THAT PART OF YORKTOWN ROAD.

UM, AND WE NEED A PLACE FOR THOSE THINGS.

SO IF WE DON'T DO THIS, WE'LL NEED TO COME UP WITH SOME OTHER SCENARIO.

IN THE LONG RUN, THE, THE BUILDING IN THE BATHROOMS WE HAVE ARE CERTAINLY BETTER THAN NOTHING, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE IN BAD SHAPE.

AND, UM, THE LIMITATION OF WHAT, UH, THE PUBLIC WORKS ENGINEERING STAFF COULD DO WITH THAT IS HOW IT IMPACTED THE AIR HANDLING EQUIPMENT, UH, FOR BOTH THE AIR CONDITIONING AND THE BATHROOM VENTILATION.

SO THAT KIND OF DEFINED, UM, THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE ROOF LINE COULD BE DROPPED ON THE NORTH AND SOUTH END.

AND THEN THIS WAS AN ATTEMPT TO ILLUSTRATE THAT THAT UNCOLORED AREA SORT OF REPRESENTS THE SLOPE ON BOTH THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH SIDE.

AND THEN YOU CAN ALSO SEE THAT THE, UM, THE, THE VENT DUCT WAS SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER THAN, UH, WHAT WAS THERE BEFORE.
